CloseMark 8:34–38 | This sermon is about a text that is simple and straightforward. At the same time, this text contains a message from Jesus that would have been shocking to all who heard it first and that is still as sobering as anything we hear in the Bible. In Mark 8:31–33, Jesus shatters the picture his disciples have of what his being the Messiah will mean for him. But in verses 34 to 38, Jesus shatters their picture of what his being the Messiah will mean for them.
