CloseGalatians 5:19–24 | In this text, Paul provides a long contrast between the works of the flesh and the fruit of the Spirit. In this sermon, we first discuss what Paul means by “flesh,” before considering the works the flesh produces and the result of following the flesh. In the second part of this sermon, we examine briefly the fruit of the Spirit, before considering the relationship between our action and the Spirit’s fruit in our lives. As Paul does in Galatians 5:24, we leave off with the good news—the gospel kind of news—that all those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh. Jesus is a powerful Savior; his blood is the double cure, with the power to save from wrath and to make us pure.
