Psalm 90: Teach Us to Number Our Days
Psalm 90 | Perhaps more than any other Psalm, Psalm 90 brings our mortality front and center. “The years of our life are seventy, or by reason of strength eighty; yet their span is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away.” In this sermon on Psalm 90 (the only Psalm written by Moses), we walk through the sobering, and sometimes painful, reflections of Moses on human frailty and mortality so that we may gain wisdom, but we also listen to Moses’s plea for the eternal God to satisfy us in the morning with his steadfast love. This Psalm doesn’t promote despair or unrealistic optimism. This Psalm sobers us as it describes our frailty and sinfulness, but this Psalm also holds out hope for real joy and gladness as we fear God, live wisely, and remember his steadfast love.
