Close1 Thessalonians 5:1–11 | As in 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18, Paul once again instructs the Thessalonians concerning the future in 1 Thessalonians 5:1–11, but this time, from a different angle. At the end of chapter four, Paul’s main goal was to encourage struggling Christians who were grieving the loss of loved ones who knew Jesus. But in the first section of chapter five, Paul is not focused as much on comforting grieving Christians as he is on challenging all Christians to live in the light of that future day. In this sermon, we examine the Bible’s teaching on “the day of the Lord” and consider Paul’s call to all of us to walk in the light of that coming day.
