Loving, Working, and Waiting

1st & 2nd Thessalonians

1 Thessalonians 4:9–18 | In 1 Thessalonians 4, Paul begins to encourage, comfort, and charge the new Christians in Thessalonica to walk worthy of God. In 1 Thessalonians 4:9–12, Paul’s charge is to keep exercising family kind of love for one another and to work hard with their own hands for the good of the church and the advance of Christ’s name in the community. In 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18, Paul’s focus changes to encouraging discouraged believers who had lost Christian brothers and sisters. Though death still stings for the Christian, Christ’s own triumph over death guarantees the future resurrection of all those united to him. What a day it will be when the trumpet resounds and Jesus descends and we are forever, together, with the Lord!
