Close2 Thessalonians 2:1–12 | In 2 Thessalonians 2:1–12, we find one of the most challenging texts in Paul’s writings, a text that focuses on the day of the Lord and on the emergence of a mysterious figure, whom Paul calls “the man of lawlessness.” In this sermon, we consider some of the biblical material from the Old Testament, Jesus’s own words, and the book of Revelation about the coming of this figure, before analyzing our text in 2 Thessalonians 2. At the end of this sermon, we then reflect on what makes the difference between being saved from God’s wrath and being the recipient of God’s wrath, as well as how this text unveils aspects of God in ways we may not expect.
