I Believe; Help My Unbelief!

The Gospel of Mark

Mark 9:14–29 | In Mark 9:1–13, Mark provides an account of the “transfiguration,” that unparalleled event when Jesus went up a mountain with only Peter, James, and John. There, those men receive a glimpse of the glory of Jesus. And not only that, they hear God’s voice speaking directly to them about Jesus, saying: This is my beloved Son. Listen to him! It was something none of those three disciples would ever forget. But have you ever thought about what the other nine disciples were doing during this same time? In other words, when Jesus and his three closest disciples are up on the mountain, what were the other nine doing down at the bottom of the mountain? In Mark 9:14–29, Mark tells us one event that happened while Jesus was away. In fact, it is still happening at the very moment Jesus comes back down the mountain. It’s the story of a desperate dad, nine embarrassed disciples, and a demon that only Jesus can put in its place.
