The Struggle of Faith

Habakkuk

Habakkuk 1:1–2:1 | Throughout life, there will be times when we simply do not understand what God is doing in our lives or why he doesn’t do for us what we know he could do for us. What are we to do when these times come? What are we to do when we call out to God and it seems like he doesn’t hear? What are we to do when God seems to be working in our lives, but not in the way that we expect, not in the way we asked, or worse, even in a way that seems to go against what we thought we knew about him? How are we to move forward in situations like these? While there are many texts to go to in the Bible for these struggles, there is perhaps no book in the Bible that addresses these questions more directly than the book of Habakkuk. In this first sermon on Habakkuk, we seek first to get our bearings on what is going on in Habakkuk’s life and second to enter Habakkuk’s struggle of faith as he wrestles with how his circumstances do not seem to fit with what he knows about God.
